Easy and fun glittery Easter egg decorating idea for toddlers and preschoolers

Coloring Easter eggs is always fun for kids no matter what age. Finding new and unique ways to add some color, texture, and pattern to your eggs will guarantee more fun along with some gorgeous results. Here is an egg decorating idea that is perfect, fun and safe for toddlers, preschool and school-aged kids. By adding some color to sugar and sprinkling it on your eggs you can craft some colorful, sparkly eggs for your Easter celebration; follow these simple steps to learn how.

Supplies:

Hard Boiled Eggs Cooled

White Granulated Sugar

Liquid Food Coloring (Try to use neon colors for dynamic results, which you can find at your local grocery store)

White Tacky Glue

Water

Paint Brush

1 – 2 Medium Size Bowls

2 -5 Small Bowls

Directions:

  1. Make sure to hard boil your eggs and cool them before you begin decorating. If you would like to add your sugar color to eggs with dye; then make sure they are dyed and completely dry before you begin.
  2. Once your eggs are prepped, take some white tacky glue and add water to it to create a nice fluid paste. You will want to add one part glue to three parts water; for example, one tablespoon of glue with three tablespoons of water. Set it aside.
  3. Next, pour about three tablespoons or less of sugar into 2 - 5 small bowls depending on how many different colors of sugar you would like to make and use on your eggs. Add 2 -3 drops of food color in each bowl then immediately begin stirring the sugar. It will clump up, so continue to stir and stomp out the clumps until your color is even. Continue this step until all colors have been created. Please note: The sugar will begin to clump after it sits for a while, don't worry because you can remove them with a few more stirs.
  4. Once all your eggs are cool and dry, then take your paint brush and paint a design or pattern with your paste. It's a good idea to plan out your design and color scheme before you begin. If you want to use more than one color than you’ll need to add each color separately and wait until each one completely dries before you sprinkle on the next color.
  5. Once you have applied you desired pattern with your paint brush begin sprinkling your sugar over that area. I recommend sprinkling your sugar over a medium size bowl to collect any remaining sugar so you can re-use it later. Repeat this step until you have competed you pattern and design.

This technique can also be used with sprinkles, jewels, sand, or anything else you can imagine. The fun part about using sugar is that it’s safe for younger children and easy to prepare. For more Easter fun and decorating ideas check out the articles below.
