The Philadelphia Eagles came from nowhere to slaughter the Oakland Raiders on Nov. 3. Yet despite how unpredictable the Eagles and Nick Foles were with their seven touchdown performance, perhaps it was perfectly predictable. In fact, the only predictable thing about Philadelphia and several other NFL teams is how unpredictable they are.
No one saw the Eagles’ 49-20 win coming, considering how pathetic their offense had been the previous two weeks. But that is Philadelphia’s pattern, as it looks utterly incompetent for a few weeks at a time -- as it did in Weeks 2-4 and 7-8 -- then gets hot when no one sees it coming, like in Weeks 1, 5-6 and 9.
After their Week 1 win over the Washington Redskins, the Eagles have been the definition of streaky. With three straight losses followed by two straight wins and two straight losses, Philadelphia now seem to be due for a winning streak next. This would give the Eagles an upset victory over the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 10 and make them 5-5 -- and then they would probably go on another losing streak just when people expect things from them.
It is impossible to get a grip on what the Eagles and their various quarterbacks will do week to week. However, that doesn’t make them different from a good portion of the NFL. Here is a list of the most inconsistent, frustrating and maddening teams in the NFL, with the Eagles barely staking their claim to the top.
