The Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers weren’t expected to put on the NFL’s biggest show on Sept. 15. The Eagles and Chargers were among the more anticipated “other” games on this NFL Sunday, yet the Manning Bowl and the Russell Wilson-Colin Kaepernick prime time showdown were the unquestionable marquee games of Week 2. However, both mega hyped battles ended in blowouts, while Philadelphia and San Diego put on a display straight out of college.
The Chargers’ 33-30 victory resembled the Alabama-Texas A&M shootout on Sept. 14 more than an NFL game -- the surest sign that Chip Kelly’s style does translate to the NFL. But while Kelly and his offense provided more fireworks, the Eagles’ defense gave them all back and finally let the Chargers pull out an upset win.
Both teams had over 500 yards of total offense while Philip Rivers and Michael Vick were barely touched. Yet since the Eagles let the Chargers take the ball last and settled for a tying field goal after the two-minute warning, Nick Novak’s winning field goal was inevitable.
The Eagles-Chargers finish wasn’t the only big one of the day, as last-second escapes also took place in Chicago, Houston, Tampa Bay, Arizona and Buffalo -- but not in New York or Seattle. Here is a list of the best and worst games during the bulk of Week 2.
