Drug sweep nets five arrests in Rockmart

On Tuesday, agents of the Polk County Police Departments drug task force arrested five area residents on multiple dangerous drug possession and distribution charges.

The drugs seized include the schedule IV prescription drug alprazolam (Xanax), schedule III prescription drug hydrocodone and cocaine. Alprazolam and hydrocodone are legal with a doctor’s prescription however; if they are found to be in a person’s possession without a valid prescription and not in the original container they become felony drug charges.

The arrests include three Rockmart residents and two Taylorsville residents.

Identity theft, robbery, burglary, domestic violence and shoplifting are just a few of the crimes that have increased due to the use of illegal drugs such as meth, cocaine and prescription drug addictions.

The arrest reports listed within this article do not reflect the guilt or innocence of the individuals listed. All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Not every arrest/charge leads to a conviction. A conviction or acquittal is determined by the court system
