The Miami Dolphins are hoping to make a breakthrough in the AFC East this year. However, the Dolphins suffered a blow to that goal on Aug. 18, as tight end Dustin Keller was ruled out for the season before it even started. Yet that barely makes Miami different from any other team that’s already lost a key contributor for the year.
Keller tore his ACL, MCL and PCL while dislocating his knee, all from a tackle administered by the Houston Texans’ D.J. Swearinger on Aug. 17. The Dolphins declared him out for the season the next night, although he only signed a one-year deal with Miami this offseason after five years with the New York Jets.
Keller may never play for the Dolphins in a regular season game, but that is a concern for next year. For this season, Miami needs a new tight end for second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Nevertheless, at least five other NFL teams can relate to what the Dolphins are going through right now.
Here is a list of the notable players that already suffered season-ending or threatening injuries in the last month, even before the halfway point of the preseason.
