Dog treats from Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

"Banana Joe", an Affenpinscher, wins Best in Show at the 2013 Westminster Dog Show on 2/13/2013. He was one of 7 Affenpinschers to compete this year. Overall, 2,721 dogs competed - the largest number of entries in 15 years. There were entries in all 187 breeds and varieties eligible to compete for this year's show. Affenpinschers compete under the Toy Breed.

One of the highlights of the year for dog lovers is the prestigious Westminster Dog Show, even if they will never have a dog entered. At the very least, owners can cheer on their favorite breeds. While I admire all the breeds, my favorite is the Scottish Terrier. I was absolutely thrilled when Sadie was named Best in Show for the 2010 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

This year's Best in Show is "Banana Joe, an Affenpinscher. In 2012 Banana Joe placed fifth overall.

The winner of Best in Show in 2012 was "GCH CH Mt. View's Ripsnortersilvercharm". While he repeated as the Top Dog in the Sporting Breeds division this year, he did not repeat as Best in Show. That title went to "Banana Joe", an Affenpinscher, who placed fifth overall in 2012 and was the Top Dog in the Toy Breed.

  • This German Wire-Haired Pointer won the Sporting Breed group. He was one of 6 German Wire-Haired Pointers to compete in the Sporting Breed group, which had 545 entries overall.
  • Tucker is an ASCOB Cocker Spaniel. He was one of 8 to compete. Cocker Spaniels compete under the Sporting Breed group. There were 545 Sporting Dogs in this year's competition.
  • Bearded Collies parade for the judges. There were 13 Bearded Collies in this year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show the competed under the Herding Dog umbrella. Overall, there were 312 entries in that division.
  • There were 19 Standard Poodles competing in this year's Westminster Dog Show. They were amongst the 267 entries in the Non-Sporting Breed.
  • This Shih Tzu looks as if it is dining out today. It is one of 17 of its breed which competed in the Toy Breed which had 396 entries. One wonders how groomers can get these pups to remain still long enough to add those little rings on its mustache.
  • Sadie, a Scottish Terrier, was named Best in Show in the 2010 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Her picture was selected for two reasons. First and foremost, Scottish Terriers are my favorite breed. I've had two and one is by my side almost every minute I am home. Second, Sadie and Banana Joe have lots of characteristics in common.
