Disney World's newest projects for 2013

Spring of 2013 will also see the arrival of the Animal Kingdom's first ever interactive exploration game. Epcot had "Kim Possible's World Showcase Adventure," now the "Agent P.'s World Showcase Adventure," and the Magic Kingdom has "Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom." Later this year, park guests in the Animal Kingdom will have their chance to become a Wilderness Explorer.Those who have seen the Disney-Pixar movie "UP" will remember that the character Russell was a Wilderness Explorer who earned badges for accomplishing certain tasks, much like the Boy Scouts. Soon, guests will be able to earn badges by completing tasks of their own in order to earn over 30 different badges.As usual, Disney hasn't released much information on what kinds of tasks and what badges park guests can expect, but it should be very similar to the experiences that have come before it in Epcot and the Magic Kingdom.The Magic Kingdom will also welcome a new interactive experience in Adventureland. It's called "A Pirate's Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas" and it will encourage park guests to explore this section of the park.Opening in the Spring of 2013, this experience will provide Disney fans with a map and a pirate talisman. They will then be instructed to journey to different areas in Adventureland to complete five different tasks to help the pirates win back the treasures of the seven seas. Park guests will be facing foes like the Royal Navy and Captain Barbossa to complete their tasks.In the Magic Kingdom Park, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be undergoing a slight renovation in 2013 in order to add an interactive ride queue. Much like Space Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, and the Little Mermaid attractions, park guests will be able to immerse themselves in a fun activity while waiting in line. Pieces of the queue have already been installed as seen here.Of course Disney wouldn't add something like this for no reason. There's a back story that goes along with the queue about a man named Barnabus T. Bullion who founded Big Thunder Mountain and is the president of the mining company there. His goal is to take all the gold he can find, claiming it's all already his, but there is a legend about this mountain. No one has ever been able to remove any gold from Big Thunder and events like natural disasters and other mysterious occurrences seem to follow whenever someone even tries.Very few details have been released as to what exactly park guests will do with the queue, but it's likely it will have something to do with the newly-created mining company. It seems that every time you go to the Walt Disney World Resort, there is always something new to see and experience. That's how Disney likes it. Continuing with Walt Disney's hope that this would be a park that would never actually be finished, Disney World and Imagineers are expecting some new additions to three of the four parks located within the resort.

While construction is still going on for the Seven Dwarf's Mine Train ride in New Fantasyland, Imagineers are also focusing on the guest's experience in other areas of the resort. Most of these new additions are aimed to create a more interactive experience. Some pertain to just one ride, others require guests to explore an entire park. Either way, Disney wants their fans to really feel like they are a part of the adventure and are well on their way to accomplishing that goal.

  • In 2012 in Epcot's Innovations, Disney tried opening a new interactive experience that would promote healthy living for kids. Unfortunately, the attraction had to close after only being open a week due to complaints from the public about how Disney was depicting its villains and the impact it would have on children. (The villains were overweight and the heroes were thin, etc.)After re-imagining the experience and reworking the storyline the attraction is now open to the public. The original heroes and villains were removed and replaced with new ones that show more sensitivity to kids and adults of all body types and fitness levels. Park guests work with agents Quench, Fuel, and Dynamo in order to defeat the villains simply known as poor nutrition, inactivity, and dehydration.
