Disney Dining: Candy at Epcot's World Showcase

China currently offers a relatively small selection but includes candies made with ginger, lychee and green tea. In the past, China has also offered White Rabbit Creamy Candy or Golden Rabbit Creamy Candy (taffy or nougat-like candy, similar to Tootsie Rolls in shape, wrapped in edible rice paper). China also offers a number of candy and snack items from Japan, such as Meiji’s Hello Panda biscuits filled with various flavors (milk, strawberry, and chocolate) – it is also available at Epcot’s Japan pavilion.Norway offers a number of candy bars as well as licorice. Look for Freia brands Daim (butter almond bar covered in milk chocolate), Firkløver (hazelnut milk chocolate), and Melkesjokolade (Freia Milk Chocolate; Nidar brands Smørbukk (semi-hard caramels), Stratos (airy chocolate with “bubbles”) and Troika (dark chocolate with marzipan, truffle & jelly layers), and Panda Licorice (soft licorice from Finland) or Salt Lakris (salt licorice). Of all the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, Epcot is the one that has foodies drooling in anticipation. The opportunities to indulge seem endless. This is especially true for Epcot’s World Showcase, which offers Disney guests many opportunities to eat (or drink) around its 11 pavilions representing different countries.

If you have a sweet tooth, or are thinking of taking home a Disney food souvenir, then the theme park also offers the possibility of an Epcot Candy Tour – a different kind of thrill for theme-park fans, one based on a sugar rush.

Think of the candy tour as a taste-testing, global tour of the candy available around Epcot World Showcase. It’s the snack-oriented version of the “Drink Around the World” challenge that focuses on alcoholic drinks from each pavilion. It’s “Candy Around the World.”

The goal? Try at least one candy from each of the 10 Epcot World Showcase countries. (Morocco doesn’t sell candy, although its baklava is sweet enough to count for “Candy around the World” completionists.)

Because it’s Disney, there are no hard-and-fast rules to the Epcot Candy Tour – except to have fun. Guests can skip countries; they may choose to substitute cookies, biscuits or other baked goods; or demonstrate moderation by sharing servings (something this Disney fan has no experience with).

Guests can even choose save the candies for home, where they can be doled out and savored to prolong the sweet memories of a Disney trip, or give it away as souvenirs.

The tour also doesn’t need to be completed in one day or trip to Epcot. It can be something to look forward to over multiple Walt Disney World vacations.

  • Germany is a “must stop” for an Epcot Candy Tour. Karamell-Küche, a "caramel kitchen" run by Werther's Candy. The shop serves fresh gourmet caramels, caramel-covered apples and popcorn, caramel-covered strawberries and fudge. Also available are a wide selection of Werther’s candies and baked goodies.Germany also offers other choices for Disney guests for whom caramel is not a favorite flavor. Try Hauta (hazelnut candy wafers); Haribo Gummi Candy (various flavors – peach, cola, rainbow) and Gold-Bears; Kinder Schokolade (chocolate bars, including the Kinder Surprise – an egg-shaped that has a toy in it); Milka Bar (milk chocolate); Niederegger (marzipan); Reber Chocolates (including the Mozart Kugeln, a pistachio marzipan); Ritter Sport (various chocolates, including bite-size options); and Toblerone (Swiss chocolate in triangular bar shape, including white chocolate).
  • Italy, like France, offers a selection of “bite size” in a small “penny candy” display area for snacking in the park, as well as gift-box options to take home. Brands commonly found in the pavilion include Pernigotti, Perugina and Baci, with an emphasis on both dark chocolate and hazelnut. There are also other candies or sweets available, including hazelnut nougats, caramels and biscuits.
  • After offering a selection of outside candy brands in recent years, the America pavilion has recently moved to feature only Disney-branded packaging, such as those from Goofy’s Candy Company. Some American items to try include caramel corn or taffy. The Pez toy with a Disney character’s head – show here is Mickey Mouse – offers a fun combination of Disney souvenir and a nostalgic Americana candy dispenser, although Pez itself was invented in Austria.
  • Japan is a “must stop” for an Epcot Candy Tour, with an almost-overwhelming number of options offered at the Mitsukoshi department store. Among the candy options available are Botan Rice Candy (jelly candies with edible rice wrapper); Glico Pocky (biscuit sticks dipped in chocolate, strawberry, and other flavors); Gumi Choco (chocolate-covered fruit chews); Hi-Chew (cross between chewing gum and fruit-flavored chewy candy); Kasugai brands Gummy Candy (assorted flavors) and Cola Soda (fizzy hard candy); and Meiji Panky Chocolate (baked bread crumbs mixed with chocolate for crunch, covered with chocolate).
  • Similar to the Italy pavilion, Franco offers a small selection of bite-sized chocolates as well as gift boxes. Maxim's de Paris is the brand commonly found at the pavilion, and includes milk and dark chocolate, plain chocolate or infused with flavors or added ingredients.  France also offers Boules de Miel, a hard candy filled with lavender honey.
  • The U.K. regularly offers a nice selection of chocolate, English toffees, fruit pastilles and wine gums, and biscuits and wafers. The pavilion carries a wide selection of brand as well. An incomplete list includes Allsorts, Bassett’s, Cadbury (e.g. Buttons, Flake, Crunchies, Wispa), Nestle (e.g. Aero Bar, Lion Bar, Smarties), Rowntree’s, Tunnock’s and Walker’s.
  • Canada focuses on promoting its maple candy and other maple syrup treats, as with its iconic maple candy shaped like a a maple leaf. In the past, Canada has also featured Nestle brands, including candies regularly found in the U.K. pavilion or those more commonly found in Canada (e.g. Coffee Crisp, cookie wafers and coffee cream covered in milk chocolate).
