The year has barely begun, and the first art opening of the year probably won't be until January 8 at the earliest. But some art shows scheduled for 2014 are already building up a lot of buzz, with an homage to Prof. Gilda Snowden at Whitdel Arts topping the list. There are in fact two Whitdel Arts shows in the top 5.
The only annually recurring show in the top 5 most anticipated is Dirty Show 15. However Start Wars could become an annually recurring show. Start Gallery has at least one annually recurring show, Beyond the Machine, which showcases on gallery walls the artwork of tattoo artists. Recurring shows at Whitdel Arts include Actual Size and the members' show.
Re:View Contemporary will be open by appointment only from January 2 to January 5, with normal gallery hours expected to resume on January 9. Some art galleries in Detroit won't open in January at all. Inner State Gallery and the Red Bull House of Art will probably be closed until March. What Pipeline, popularly known as "What the pipeline!?" might have an opening January 25.
