I recently emailed all my friends and family with the subject line: Obituary. The text said: “801-834-4389 passed away on August 20 in a tragic drowning accident involving a washing machine. It is survived by Marcia Hornok who will now communicate mainly by email or land line. Condolences are unnecessary as we were planning to downsize anyhow.”
Of course I took the phone apart and buried it in rice for two days. When I resurrected it and turned it on, it gave me the screen of death—white light with water spots. Instead of the colorful wallpaper picture of my three Tennessee grandkids, it looked like an abandoned aquarium.
Responses to my email obituary varied from shock—I’m in trouble from my friend Jill who thought a family member had drowned—to congratulations from my son-in-law for being “freed from my cell.”
See the list for advice and angst from others. Perhaps in a month I'll post an update that the "freezer trick" was successful.
