California-based singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and previous contributor John Enghauser suggested one of his 2009 tunes as another possibility.  “‘Still Waters’ (is one) which women tend to like a lot.  The only problem is that the words are actually more about breaking up, not making up” he laughed.  It's just got a sexy feel to it.”Regular contributor “Swexy” Kittie of Pismo Beach’s famous Orange Cat Café fame suggested Michael Bolton's (1992 cover of) "Since I Fell For You".  This jazz and pop standard is a blues ballad written by Buddy Johnson in 1945.  The most successful version of the tune was recorded by Lenny Welch in 1963.The title itself- “Dancing in the Sheets”-was inspired by my Facebook friend Steve Delp who used the phrase when explaining the concept to another online acquaintance.   Here is the first group of responses:Larry “Fuzzy” Knight, frontman for the Blowin' Smoke Rhythm and Blues Band, said: “I think ‘These Arms of Mine’ sung by Carolyn Basley on the Blowin' Smoke R&B Band featuring the fabulous Smokettes CD Beyond The Blues Horizon.  This song was originally recorded by the legendary, Otis Redding (back in 1962).”  View the list »

“Music hath charms to sooth the savage breast”. It also often has charms to make ladies BARE them. Your crusty chronicler, of course, being the shy, innocent white boy he is, would never think of suggesting creating a sexual seduction soundtrack.

Still, the sounds that turn us on was an interesting idea for a fun-filled filler article. L.A. based musicians, East Coast artists and many music fans were polled about tunes that turn them on, songs they heard when they “broke some off” and music they listen to while they “boffed”. Surprisingly, the response was so great the one shot article has become a series.

  • The late, lovely Tina Miller had several suggestions before we unfortunately lost her.  One was “anything by Diana Krall.  Jazz is sexy.  Candles, body oils, mmmmmmmm . . .” Perhaps Krall’s Grammy-winning 2009 cover of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s 1960 selection “Quiet Nights”?  In 2010 it scored for “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)”. 
  • Another online source suggested The Beatles’ “Michelle”.  Every music mix needs a Beatles-related tune.  This one from 1965 fits the bill quite nicely.   It even grabbed a Grammy in 1967.  Lennon contributed the middle eight to this mainly McCartney song.  Some folks even find the French portion of the lyrics as romantic.
