In which Buffy makes some homemade Father's Day gifts/ cards….
If ever you should wonder why I'm so into making DIY Father's Day cards and gifts, you can actually blame my zeal on my dad. Aside from inheriting a talent for drawing from him, I also happened to have gotten a great infusion of his creative energies and ideas. He loved making things -- I'll say more about that in a minute -- and he loved expressing himself through the poems, sayings and quotes he found in birthday and holiday greeting cards.
Pretty much, I was doomed. As a result, I'm always looking for Father's Day activities that I can do or when I have kids in my charge, for handmade Dad's Day cards and gifts.
- For your FYI: When is Father's Day 2014? Father's Day weekend is June 14th and 15th this year, with the actual holiday falling on the 15th. Mark the date on your calendar if you haven't already.
Personalized Gifts are Homemade Gifts Very Often
Once upon a time in my younger days, I was a nanny in New York. It was the first time I was really away from home for a long stretch. I knew my dad missed me, because my mom told me so. He did, too, but he didn't dwell on it too much when we talked on the phone, mostly because I think he didn't want me to feel guilty.
In any event, I was never more certain that he missed me than when I came home to Idaho from my first year of nannying in New York. My dad had done his own weekend craft activity and my bedroom was the recipient. I walked into my "new" old room to find it completely remodeled, including a giant sign/ welcome home card that he hung from the ceiling on fancy chains that said, "Welcome home, Buffy!"
What does this have to do with craft ides for Father's Day you might ask? Everything in a word. He taught me through his actions that if you're going to make something homemade, you ought to do it in a big and thoughtful way.
From then on while my father was still alive, I used to live making him funny and personalized Father's Day cards, Christmas gifts and birthday crafts. No Father's craft idea was ever too elaborate.
