Look for these new craft beer releases in your favorite San Diego shops. This is a great time for seasonal releases if you are a fan of big, bold, easy drinking beers such as stouts and barleywines. This is just a small list of the releases you can find in San Diego within the past few weeks.
Avery Maharaja IIPA
Huge hop profile (Simcoe, Chinook, Columbus, Centennial) with a malt backbone that eases the bite of this 10% Dictator Series release. Find this brew and add it to your list of new favorites if you haven't already experienced it.
Old Ruffian Barleywine
Solid hoppy version of the style, highly awarded at GABF (gold '06); huge caramel and toffee flavors. A definite sipper. Grab two, one to drink and one to cellar, unless you're lucky enough to get your hands on the barrel aged limited release version they bottle.
Clear your agenda for the evening when cracking this open. Rings in at 11% and runs the gamut of flavors from vanilla to coffee and is sure to please any dark brew crew
Apex Special IPA
GABF Silver Apex won the Silver Medal at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival in the American-Style India Pale Ale Category up against 94 other entries. The third addition to their hop forward seasonal lineup, Apex is intensely hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe and Citra and balanced with a rich and malty backbone. I have yet to try this brew.
