Cops: Five charged in Nassau prostitution busts

Five women faced a judge for arraignment Thursday after being arrested during a Wednesday night undercover operation by Vice Squad detectives targeting prostitution, Nassau County police said.

Detectives conducted the operation at various hotels and motels across Nassau County, police said. Beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, detectives made five arrests.

At least two of the women had been previously arrested on similar charges, prosecutors said in court. Four of the women were released without bail. One woman, Vanessa Guttieriz, of Wynata Kill, NY, was held on $250 bail or $500 bond after the arraignment. Prosecutors said she had previous criminal convictions.

Wednesday’s undercover operation comes after many civic organizations in Nassau County complained to police that members reported concerns of prostitution. In West Hempstead, at least eight women were arrested at a local spa, charged with prostitution, in the past two months.

The five women arrested Wednesday were charged with misdemeanor counts of prostitution. They were arraigned Thursday morning at Nassau First District Court in Hempstead before Judge David McAndrews.
