While continuing to record and perform with his acclaimed rock/blues band, the Asbury Jukes, Lyon is doing this show with his new project, Southside Johnny and the Poor Fools. The current line-up features Jukes collaborator Jeff Kazee, Jukes bassist John Conte, Billy Joel guitarist Tommy Byrnes, Jukes multi-instrumentalist Neal "The Dude" Pawley, and occasional guest appearances by old friends. The show celebrates the release of a new CD, "Songs From the Barn," featuring six original tracks written by Lyon and Kazee, along with covers of songs by the likes of Randy Newman, Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams.The Poor Fools take "Southside Johnny" in a rootsier, more acoustic direction, making the cozy Barns a great location for a live throwdown of the new material. As Lyon himself previews gigs with his new crew, “we’ll be doing country songs, or bluegrass stuff, older songs, softer songs maybe - covers from say, Dylan or Tom Waits. But since any band that picks up a banjo these days is going to be compared to Mumford and Sons, you'll need to hear for yourself to set the record straight.
