On March 8 - 10 surfers are invited to hang 10 at the 4th Annual Punta Sayulita Classic, which is regarded as one of the top International surfing and stand-up paddle events. Sayulita is on Mexico's Pacific Coast, 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta.
Hosted by the Riviera Nayarit Tourism Board and the Punta Sayulita Resort community, the event attracts a large international field of professional athletes and amateurs, to compete in longboard and stand-up paddle surfing contests, and offshore distance races.
The weekend begins with a surfing clinic for special-needs and underprivileged children led by Malibu Calif longboard surfing legend Jimmy Gamboa and members of his "Therasurf Foundation", as well as local professionals and instructors from Sayulita surfing schools. There will be a community wide beach cleanup led by James Pribram from the "Eco-warrior Foundation" as well as members of "Project save our surf". For more information about the event visit here.
This event differs, from other such competitions, as no prize money will be given. Instead the primary reason for the event is to raise awareness for protecting the environment, and respect for the world's oceans and wildlife. It will also raise money for the "Reef Check Foundation's Eco-diver program" and the "Punta Sayulita Foundation for children's education and sports development".
The event will feature, on March 9, a free beachfront concert by the International Reggae Artist Mishka, who had this to say about his upcoming performance. "This year we will be playing a whole lot of new tunes as I am releasing a new mini album on Jimmy Buffett’s Mailboat Records, so this will be a release party for the new music".
