Columbia History: Lots of tours

Here's a quick look at some historic happenings in Columbia this week.

Tuesday, March 5, 11 a.m.: Woodrow Wilson Hard-Hat Tour: Phase 1 of the Woodrow Wilson Family Home rehabilitation is complete. This tour allows guests the opportunity to visit the site which is currently under restoration and review the significance of this historic house and what is being done to preserve it from additional deterioration. Guests will also learn about the progress made during the first phase of the project then walk inside the house to gain a better understanding of the work that lies ahead.

Friday, March 8, 11 a.m. Robert Mills Historic District Walking Tour: Historic Columbia Foundation will host guided tours of the Robert Mills Historic District. Guests can enjoy the charm of this downtown neighborhood as they walk past some of Columbia's oldest remaining homes, observing some of the significant architectural features found in the area.

Sunday, March 10, 2 p.m.: Second Sunday Stroll of Melrose Heights: Explore Columbia and discover the rich history found in her historic downtown neighborhoods. Second Sunday Strolls provide a guided tour for many of the neighborhoods featured in Historic Columbia Foundation's Retrace (Connecting Communities Through History) brochures. Tours are 30 – 60 minutes in length (varies by neighborhood and tour participants).

The neighborhood for our March Tour is Melrose Heights. Meets at Melrose Park – Corner of 1500 block of Fairview Avenue.
