Week 1 of the college football season ended on Sept. 2. Once the first new college football rankings come out on Sept. 3, the top of the polls should look about the same, save for the Georgia Bulldogs leaving the top 10 after losing to the Clemson Tigers. But who were the most impressive top ranked teams in their opening game of the season?
The Alabama Crimson Tide will be No. 1 in the polls as long as they don’t lose. Nevertheless, they showed some weaknesses in their opening victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Aug 31, due to a questionable offensive line and little offensive production. In truth, the team that did the best this past weekend was the Tigers, if only because beating the Bulldogs was the statement win Clemson desperately needed.
Time will tell if that win was just another tease from Clemson, or a sign that this program is the real deal. But for now, here is a list of the top 10 best teams in college football during Week 1, whether the actual rankings reflect that or not.
