College basketball's top 10 +1: William's Power Poll, week 2

The Florida Gators took one on the chin at Arkansas.  So far it was just a blip on the radar, and they look to continue their SEC dominance.  Indiana gave the game away earlier in the week at Illinois.  They bounced back on Sunday with a win at Ohio State.  Like Miami, the Hoosiers are talented at every position on the floor,and they play well together.  The Hoosiers transition game can be dominating at times.  Miami is the only power conference team with an undefeated record.  They top this week's power poll after dismantling North Carolina at home.  The Hurricanes are talented, and they play fast and shoot the ball extremely well from the perimeter.  Miami is also good enough to beat teams at every position on the floor.  View the list »

The college basketball season continues to amaze us on a nightly basis. Louisville lost a five overtime thriller to Notre Dame on Saturday night. Duke survived a real scare against Boston College on Sunday. Tim Hardaway Jr. hit a game winning three for Michigan. Then Ben Brust ties the game on a half court heave to send the game into overtime. This week’s power poll reflects how well the teams are playing, and due to the turbulence of the season, there should be a lot of changes.

There may be a few surprises in the top 10+1. Here are a couple of the teams that didn’t make the list. Kansas dropped fast after losing three straight games. The Jayhawks are reeling right now in the Big 12.

Ohio State was one possession away from beating Michigan, but they ended up losing twice during the week. The Buckeyes had a chance for a home win against Indiana, yet they couldn’t get the job done.

  • The Blue Devils were the only top five team not to lose this week.  Still, they weren't impressive in their win over Boston College.  Their next game is against North Carolina.  
  • Michigan avenged their loss to Ohio State. Then they gave up a buzzer beating three against Wisconsin to send the game in overtime.  The Wolverines lost a tough one.  Michigan has one of the best back courts in the nation.    
  • The Orange were one of only three top 10 teams not to lose last week.  James returned from a six game suspension to score 13 points.  
  • Gonzaga is a solid final four threat come March.  If they continues to stay undefeated, they may find themselves number one in the nation.  
  • After two double digit victories, Michigan State gets to battle Michigan on Tuesday.  They are tied for the Big Ten lead at (9-2) 
  • The Hoyas are on a five game winning streak, and one game out of the Big East lead.  Georgetown plays league leader Marquette on Monday night.  Otto Porter is in the running for conference player of the year.
  • The loss to Cal was not enough to knock the Wildcats out of the power poll.  Arizona is in a three way tie for first in the PAC 12.  
  • The Bulldogs are back at full strength on the court.  They have won three in a row and are tied for first in the conference at (7-2) They are part of a powerful Atlantic 10 conference that might get at least 6 teams into the tourney.
