Cher, born Cherilyn Sarkissian in 1946, rose to fame in the 1960’s. Cher and her then husband gained notoriety with their song “I Got You Babe”. In the 1970’s Sonny and Cher starred in their own show. The show ran from 1971 to 1975.
The couple divorced in 1975 and Cher went out on her own. Cher recorded several hits including, “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves”, and “Half Breed”. In the years to come Cher became famous for her outrageous costumes, as much as she did for her musical talent. As a trend setter she lead fashion for women as well as topping the entertainers list in in Las Vegas.
In the1980’s Cher pursued an acting career starring in “Moon Struck”, “The Witches of Eastwick, “Mask”, and “Silkwood”. Cher won her first Academy award nomination for her role in “Silkwood”, and won the Oscar for “Moon Struck”.
In 2010 Cher starred in ”Burlesque” and is set to release a new album in September of 2013.
