Celebrity men who have been awarded sole custody of their young children

It used to be that women stood a better chance of being granted sole custody of young children than men. That is not case these days. Many men are now receiving sole custody of their young children.

On March 12, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders was granted full custody of his 11-year-old son and his 12-year-old-son.

What is child custody?

Child custody and guardianship are legal terms which are used to describe the legal and practical relationship between parents and their children. The parent who has custody has the right to care for the children and make decisions for them.

According to Wikipedia, there are various forms of child custody.

• Alternating custody is an arrangement whereby the children live for an extended period of time with one parent, and then for a similar amount of time with the other parent. While the children are with the parent, that parent retains sole authority over the children.
• Shared custody is an arrangement whereby the children live for an extended period of time with one parent, and then for a similar amount of time with the other parent. Unlike alternating custody both parents retain authority over the children.
• Bird's nest custody is an arrangement whereby the parents go back and forth from a residence in which the children reside, placing the burden of upheaval and movement on the parents rather than on the children.
• Joint custody is an arrangement whereby both parents have legal custody and both parents have physical custody.
• Sole custody is an arrangement whereby only one parent has physical and legal custody of a child.
• Split custody is an arrangement whereby one parent has full-time custody over some children, and the other parent has full custody over the other children.
• Third-party custody is an arrangement in whereby the children do not remain with either biological parent, and are placed under the custody of a third person.
