Just about a year ago, Pippa Middleton, 30, sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, released her first home entertaining book. Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends is more or less a guide for seasonal and holiday gatherings, with thoughtful anecdotes and English flair. It was met with substantial criticism, The Telegraph giving the attempt dismal 1/5 stars. And then there was the whole business of Middleton leaving her publisher earlier this year, but let’s stay focused on what Celebrate does right.
The socialite is pretty good at crafting an appealing lifestyle, which is the point of this sort of book. And she knows a thing or two about entertaining - Middleton has worked for her family’s mail order party business, Party Pieces, the company that made them self-made millionaires. So, someone is doing something right, somewhere. At least these autumnal activities are easy and charming and absolutely worth a try.
