I'm embarking on a cruise aboard the newly revamped Carnival Sunshine on April 17, but I started my trip a day early because there's so much to see and do on the Space Coast. My first stop was the Port d'Hiver Bed and Breakfast, located about 45 minutes from Port Canaveral on A1A. It's literally across the street from the ocean, and it's like a serene oasis in the midst of a busy beach front area. I'll be posting a full review, but in the meantime, I wanted to share some of the highlights before I head down to enjoy the wine and snacks they provide for guests each evening.
The Port d'Hiver Bed abd Breakfast is located in a historic home. It was built by Neffie S. Long in 1916 and originally named for Kentucky military cavalry instructor Walter Brown. It retains all of its rustic charm, but with modern amenities like flat screen TVs and wi-fi.
There are several water features around the grounds of Port d'Hiver. They're attractive and also serve to buffer sound from busy A1A, letting you feel like you're in a little secluded corner of paradise amidst the bustle.
Yes, the ocean is right across the street, and you can grab a beach chair and umbrella. but you also have the option of enjoying the spa right on site. The waterfall adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
In the morning, enjoy breakfast in this cozy area. During the day, you can come downstairs and enjoy the nearby library and seating spaces. There's wi-fi in the common area and also in the guest rooms.
Warning: these fresh baked cookies are addictive! They're available night and day in the common area, so grab one as you walk by. The gluten free version is as tasty as the regular cookies.
Look at that comfy bed! This is Walter's Suite, one of the rooms in the main house. It's large, cozy, and has an amazing wrap around balcony. If you don't want to eat breakfast in the main area, you can have it out there in private/
More of Walter's Suite
Walter's Suite is newly remodeled, and it used to be two separate rooms. Now it's just one big, spacious accommodation. There's a balcony and ocean view just outside that door.
Here's what you see if you step outside from Walter's Suite. That's all public beach, so when the weather is nice and sunny, you can grab a chair and head over to enjoy the sandy stretch.
