Fan clubs for sci fi have been around almost as long as fans. In our current era of fandom, some have taken it to a whole new level. And Houston's Space City Con is leveling up for more fan group fun this weekend.
Whether it's running around in white armor helping kids, teaching Klingon combat, tinkering with the TARDIS, or telling old west ghost stories, fan groups are part of the convention scene, and give fellow fans friends to hang out and costume with, and even nerd out for a good cause.
The fan groups in this article have been prior guests to Space City and other cons in the greater Southeast to Central Texas areas. Both The Doctor Who Fan Club of Austin, TX, and Lone Star Jedi are returning.
Fan groups have been a big part of Space City Con, and this year will be no exception. Friday night at 9 p.m., the 1701st will be holding a 'Night on The Holodeck'. Different fan groups will be on hand, and having a convention pass is not needed to attend. The 1701st,have done previous charity work for the USO through different events.
Celebrity guests will include Rick Fitts and Marshall Teague. Tickets available at the door for $5.00
