The Capital Region will be in a transition zone today between a departing series of cold fronts, and an incoming Canadian high pressure associated with some autumn-like conditions. A secondary cold front was passing through the region early this morning, and should be east of the area by sunrise. Lurking to the west was an upper level disturbance, clearly visible on satellite imagery, over the lower Great Lakes. Through the day today, this disturbance is forecast to lift northeast, into southern Canada. A few scattered showers cannot be ruled out across the Capital Region today, owing to the close proximity of the upper level impulse. The better chances for showers exist further north, closer to the Canadian border. A fresh northwesterly breeze will pick up today, and with temperatures a good 20 to 30 degrees lower than yesterday, it will feel noticeably cooler.
High pressure begins to build into the region this evening, and will stay with us for the coming weekend. Daytime high temperatures will start out a bit below normal, trending back to near normal by the weekend’s conclusion. Overnight lows look chilly as clear skies allow for some heat loss. Tonight, a bit of a breeze is forecast to remain across the region, which will keep temperatures from falling too much. However, Saturday night the breeze looks to be nearly non-existent, and thus, temperatures are expected to fall back a few more degrees, bringing upper 30’s to lower 40’s across portions of the region to start out Sunday morning.
Fair weather dominates the region’s weather into the coming work week, with the only potential snag coming late Sunday night into Monday morning, as a moisture starved cold front sags through the region producing a slight chance of a shower.
