The Braves finished their winningest season in some time, taking their 96th win of the year with a 12-5 beating of the Phillies at Turner Field this afternoon en route to their first division title since 2005.
Evan Gattis hit his 21st home run of the year, second among major league rookies. Julio Teheran got his 14th win of the year, best among major league rookies. Freddie Freeman drove in two more runs, giving him 109 for the year to go along with a .319 average and 23 home runs.
Zach Miner (0-2) took the loss for the Phillies, as Philadelphia ended the year 73-89 with a new manager, as Ryne Sandberg took the helm after Charlie Manuel was fired in August.
The Braves did not get hom-field advantage for the playoffs, however, as the Cardinals beat the Cubs today to lock that up. The Braves will face the Dodgers in the first round of the playoffs. Game 1 will be at Turner Field on Thursday, so the Braves have a few days to rest up for a deep run.
