Week 6 of the NFL season had a lot of ugly action on Oct. 13. Things looked ugly for the New England Patriots too, as they were ending their game with the New Orleans Saints on a terrible note. Dropped passes, blown leads and an overmatched Tom Brady defined what seemed to be a terrible defeat – until the final minute overshadowed all of it.
Brady saved the day, the week and possibly the Patriots’ season with a game-winning drive in the blink of an eye. A 27-23 loss turned into a 30-27 victory on the strength of five big completions, including a fourth-and-four conversion and a touchdown to Kenbrell Thompkins with five seconds left.
Much of the second half belonged to the Saints, who enjoyed coming back from 17-7 and 23-17 deficits, before stopping the Patriots on a four-and-out and getting a quick interception on two late drives. But because the Saints didn’t make a first down after those stops, Brady got the ball back one more time and ran with it.
That one drive and minute overshadowed countless Patriots mistakes, which would have made New England cry doom and gloom all week. Even as it stands, the Patriots may be the weakest and luckiest 5-1 team in the NFL. However, not everyone looked pretty during Week 6 -- not even the Denver Broncos against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Here is a list of the best and worst games in the NFL on Oct. 13, although the whole lineup needed Brady to put a pretty bow on it at the end -- almost as much as the Patriots needed it.
