Box Office: Friendly neighborhood Spidey taken down by other ‘Neighbors’

Two comedies and a children’s film joined the Box Office this Mother’s Day weekend, “Neighbors,” “Moms Night Out,” and “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.” On Monday, the Box Office updated their charts to feature the top 10 movies of the weekend.

Summer is here, movie fanatics will soon begin to crowd the theaters. Spidey kicked off the summer in movies with “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” but did one of the above debuts crash its party? Find out below. Also, thanks to Box Office Mojo, below are the worldwide totals for each film.

The raunchy R-rated comedy starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, “Neighbors,” hit theaters this weekend, taking all of the attention from Spidey. “Neighbors” collected $51 million, the largest opening ever for an R comedy. Adding its international sum, the worldwide total so far is $85.4 million.

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' #2

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” had to settle for second place, dropping 60% percent with $37.2 million. If it wasn’t for the international push, Spidey wouldn’t even be at the $150 million mark. The worldwide total for it is $550.9 million. This installment is on track to be the lowest grossing Spidey film (of both old and new franchises) so far.

Cameron Diaz’s “The Other Woman” is in third place with $9.2 million, for a worldwide total of $127.7 million. The hit comedy also co-stars Leslie Mann, Nicki Minaj and Kate Upton.

Sony’s “Heaven is for Real” sits back in fourth place, adding $7 million to its sum. Worldwide, the Christian film has scored $77 million. Certainly no one saw this coming, “Heaven is for Real” attracting so much attention.

Another hero finds himself on the top 10, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The Avenger collects $5.6 million this weekend, for a worldwide total of $695.6 million. The hero film stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The animated feature, “Rio 2,” flies down to number six with $5 million. Featuring voices of Anne Hathaway, Leslie Mann, and Jesse Eisenberg, “Rio 2,” has a worldwide total of $422.6 million.

New debut “Moms Night Out,” didn’t expect to do as bad as it did, considering the Mother’s day weekend. The comedy collected just $4.2 million. With no international release, this is their worldwide total. The film stars Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, and Patricia Heaton.

The weekend’s final debut, “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return,” also failed to impress. The animated movie brought in $3.7 million, no international release. Voicing the cartoon are Lea Michele, Dan Aykroyd, and James Belushi.

Finally, “Brick Mansions” comes in last place in the top 10 with $1.4 million. This is one of Paul Walker’s last projects. It also costars David Belle. Worldwide total for the action movie is $26.6 million.
