Hunger is normally associated with the stomach. The hunger pains began and are met with food. Food is the answer to hunger. Food nourishes and replenishes what the body needs to function. The body utilizes food for fuel to be active and alive. Thirst is similar to hunger but this is the need for something to drink like water. The body needs water as well to take the vitamins and minerals from food to the cells.
The above verse describes a different kind of hunger and thirst. What is sought and needed is righteousness meaning to do what is right. The Holy Bible provides the sustenance for righteousness. It gives instructions on what is right and what is wrong. Jesus is the fulfillment of Scriptures and is called the bread of life. He is the righteousness of God. The Holy Spirit helps the flow of living water from the throne of God.
