“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”(Matthew 5:4)
Jesus is teaching in Matthew 5 about attitudes of the heart and mind. He is encouraging the believer in Him about having grief. Mourn means to grieve. Mourning is characterized by great sorrow and crying or wailing. Loss due to several reasons to include personal sins and those of others can make one feel sorrow. Jesus understood that believers would have these emotions.
“It is okay”, He says because he or she will be made to feel better. Jesus said, the Comforter, would come. The Holy Spirit lives in believers to counsel and console. God is even going to wipe the tears and all mourning will cease. How about that for some encouragement! Every believer has a blessed hope in Jesus. That should put a smile on a person’s face.
Challenge: Grieve if you must, but know that Comfort is found in the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit!
