One of the surprise positions getting hit fast in the opening moments of the 2013 free agency period is that of tight end, with multiple notable players at this position already coming off of the market.
Perhaps this makes up somewhat with the slew of releases that the position experienced leading up to the dawn of the free agency period, including San Diego Chargers tight end Randy McMichael today. That list also included former Giants tight end Kevin Boss, who, thanks to certain other moves today, may perhaps find his way back to the team.
The biggest news, however, is that Tony Gonzalez, who leads all tight ends in just about every significant career receiving statistic, has announced that he is returning for a 17th season after previously saying that 2012 was 95% likely his last. He is expected to re-sign with the Atlanta Falcons, although he, as a free agent, it technically free to sign with any team.
