It may not be every day but those days do happen when you just need to nosh on something during the day. Those between meal cravings can be strong and choosing the right snack to munch on is important. You don’t want to dive into something that will ruin your appetite when it is so close to dinnertime or fill you up too much if it happens to be only an hour or so after eating lunch.

Almond butter is a great heart-healthy food source. It is healthy and tasty, doesn’t contain excess sugars, is a good source of fiber, protein as well as fueled with many vitamins and minerals. People usually reach for the peanut butter jar but almond butter is actually a healthier choice.

Almond butter snacks to take the edge off hunger pangs between meals or anytime:

  • Scoop out a teaspoon or two out of the almond butter jar and dip celery sticks into it and enjoy the nutty flavor and crunch. The celery as you may know is a non-calorie food and the almond butter provides a host of nutrients that is satisfying. When these two are paired together you have a healthy snack that fill that void without filling you up.
  • Apples are another wonderful fruit to slice up and dip into almond butter. The crunch of the apples and the sweet nut aroma and taste of almonds go well together.
  • If you had a very light lunch and just need to eat something before dinner especially if it is planned for a later time than usual make a simple sandwich. Spread some almond butter on some bread, wheat bread would be a healthier choice and add some banana slices on top for a light yet filling sandwich to tide you over until you can sit down for dinner.

(The almond butter used in this recipe is from California almonds)

Try these snacks out today and celebrate “National Almond Day”!
