As a child, I had an unnatural obsession with notebooks. Lined, college ruled, three-subject, unlined, glossy, matte finish, with pockets, perforated, double bound (you get the idea). But, it wasn’t until I was in high school that I got my first sketchbook: an all black, cloth bound, 8x11 beauty with a hundred sheets of BFK paper. There’s something special about sketchbooks; something that sets them apart from your regular, run-of-the-mill pad with paper in it.
Its the place where ideas are born, where you should feel free to express yourself without judgement and explore endless possibilities. I never understood the importance and value of a good sketchbook until I became an art major eons ago and I had to go through a phase of ‘crummy books’ to get there.
