Best Romantic Dramas To Watch On Valentine's Day

Directed by Marc Webb .  It is an offbeat romantic comedy that features a woman (Zooey Deschanel) who doesn’t believe in true love and a man (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who believes she is his soul mate.  The story is told in a refreshingly non-chronological order.  The chemistry between the two leads is uncanny.Written and Directed by Cameron Crowe.  Who says opposites don’t attract?  Underachiever Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) falls in love with the class valedictorian (Iona Skye) after their graduation party.  Going up against her overprotective father, makes this romantic comedy an endearing classic.Directed by Rob Reiner and written by the talented screenwriter Nora Ephron.  This film deals with some serious concerns in a comical way.  Can a man and a woman actually just stay good friends without it getting complicated with sex?  Meg Ryan has one of the most memorable scenes in a romantic comedy when she shows Billy Crystal how a woman can fake an orgasm in a New York deli.View the list »

Happy Valentine’s Day, cinephiles! Whether you dread this day or embrace it, Hollywood has produced some memorable films to watch on this celebrated day of romantic love. Romantic dramas are one of my favorite genres. When it’s done right on the big screen, it’s pure magic. Let’s face it; we all have memories of awesome relationships. Unfortunately, we have all experienced that nightmare relationship too. Oprah Winfrey said it best about romantic love, “Don't settle for a relationship that won't let you be yourself.” Sometimes it’s more fun to view a relationship from the bleachers. Here are my top movie picks for Valentine’s Day.

Russell.  Up for several Oscars including Best Picture, this quirky romantic comedy has the potential to be a classic.  Bradley Cooper plays a guy just out of a mental institution.  As he tries to piece his life together and get his wife back, he meets love interest Jennifer Lawrence.  These two wounded souls have the funniest and most biting scenes together that make it feel so real.
  • Written and directed by Woody Allen.  Allen’s neurotic take on modern love is a classic.  Allen’s use of Freud and his fear of death in explaining human attraction are brilliant.  Comedian Alvy Singer (Allen) woos the quirky, bohemian nightclub singer Annie Hall (Diane Keaton) and it is still considered the benchmark for many romantic comedies of today. 
  • Directed by Blake Edwards and based on a novella by Truman Capote.  A struggling writer (George Peppard) moves into an apartment building on Manhattan’s swanky East Side.  He becomes intrigued with his quirky socialite neighbor Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn).  Hepburn’s performance of “Moonriver” helped composer Henry Mancini win an Oscar for Best Song.
