Best LGBT Easter goddies to make with the kids

Jello Easter eggs are all the rage this year, made one of two ways. Empty out a dozen eggs by poking a hole in each end and blowing out the insides, let them dry and seal one hole (hot glue gun) then fill with jello in rainbow colors or use the little plastic egg molds you can buy at the dollar store. Either way they are egg free eggs and they stay good for a very long time.Make rainbow stripes on your eggs. This requires a paintbrush. Start with the darkest color at the bottom and work your way up the egg one ring at a time being sure to wash your brush for each color. It is best to set the egg on its side for painting so that the colors do not all bleed down. It is also nice to make a quick egg holder with a few pins, in a piece of Styrofoam of cardboard. Careful not to poke yourself! Spring is in bloom and color is arriving all over Sacramento. Now is the time that many parents are decorating eggs with the kids. Here are some fancy ways to gay-up the holiday.

Now go grab some of that rainbow colored caramel corn at the mall and display it in plain dishes as a treat and a decoration.If all else fails and you're busy, there is always rainbow sorbet ice-cream.

  • If you need or want cake, make it rainbow. One mom even made mini rainbow cakes in jars to give to friends. Talk about an activity the kids would love! There is nothing better than arriving at spring picnic with a basket full of individual rainbow cakes.
  • Dye small batches of spaghetti and make a rainbow of pasta. The only drawback to this idea is the amount of work that goes into dying small batches of pasta several different colors. It will no doubt be a crowd pleaser.
  • For healthy parents, note that peppers are red, yellow and green, carrots are orange and purple can be found in heirloom potatoes, eggplant and sometimes rhubarb. Cut the aforementioned into strips and place them over mashed potato clouds. Rainbow Dinner Voila!
  • Create the color spectrum with shish-kabob sticks and fresh fruit. This is a perfect addition to breakfast or lunch. The fruit is healthy and the rainbow is natural. As with anything sharp be sure to watch out that the kids don't poke themselves or each other!
