“Best of” lists for albums dating from a specific year are typically published toward the end of that year or the beginning of the following year; however, there is no explicit purpose in following this procedure other than the simple fact that is the time period during which people are most interested in such lists and seek them out.
The music sounds no different whether such a list is compiled in the middle of the year, nor if the list is for the best albums of a decade ago. Nobody has an ever flowing stream of revenue to be on top of every new release, and there are always some albums that you find later, even years later.
Presented in the following list is just one individual’s perspective on the 25 best albums released in the year 2012 within the heavy metal genre, including all its subgenres. For simplicity’s sake, included are only full-length albums and significant EP releases.
In lieu of a standard and by and large arbitrary numerical ranking of the albums, the list is completed simply in alphabetical order. Here is part five of that list, the concluding chapter.
