It’s that ghostly time of year – Halloween. There are plenty of family-friendly events in and around Atlanta to celebrate, but some are more remarkable and memorable than others. From young kids to teens, there’s something for everyone this Halloween in Atlanta.
Younger children are often spooked by ghosts and goblins that pop up in October, so finding a Halloween event that’s focused on spirit of trick-or-treating can be a bit challenging. Teens, on the other hand, love the blood and scariness of Halloween, so they want something that’s a bit dark and foreboding. Most tweens, depending on their maturity level, love a combination of both.
Kids of all ages love candy. Halloween is the second biggest holiday when it comes to candy. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups rank as the most popular Halloween candy, followed by Life Savers, Baby Ruth, Tootsie Rolls and Milky Way. M&Ms and Hershey bars are also very popular. When trick-or-treating, it’s important to follow safety guidelines. The American Academy of Pediatrics offers safety tips for costumes, trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving and candy. When choosing a Halloween costume, it’s important to buy one that is bright, reflective and fire-resistant. Plus, a parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children on their neighborhood rounds.
To get into the spirit of Halloween, there are five family-friendly events that are standout in 2013. Certain ones are geared towards younger children, while others cater to tweens and teens. The top 5 are included in the slideshow (click on "View 5 Photos").
Best wishes for a fun, but safe Halloween.
