Shock Week started with the biggest upset to ever hit the University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium. The Utes shocked then-No. 5 Stanford, 27-21. Then BYU destroyed a good Georgia Tech team, 38-20 before Boise State smacked the Utah State Aggies -- who were gunning for a conference title -- by the score of 34-23.
In all there were three unexpected performances by the home teams. As you saw Saturday, Utah State is in serious trouble now at 3-4. But, Utah and BYU are not only close to being bowl-bound at 4-2 overall, they're knocking on the doors of some big-time bowl bids -- if, and only if, they continue playing at this rate.
It will not be easy, for the Utes now play two straight on the road -- and BYU travels to Houston to face off against the unbeaten Cougars.
As for the Utah Jazz, point guard Trey Burke is now out 8-12 weeks with a broken right index finger. Our boys will talk about what happens next. And Spencer Hadley is back! After the BYU linebacker served a suspension after being spotted drinking in a Vegas nightclub, that is.
As you know, the "Believer" is of sound mind and body but even he couldn't have predicted what happened last weekend. (Actually, he did.) And the "Non-Believer" probably couldn't have either. (And, he didn't.)
