Bus drivers are often the unsung heroes in school divisions. They are often the first to alert school officials when very young students appear to be unattended either at the beginning or end of the school day. They keep a watchful eye out for unusual vehicles that seem to be lurking in a neighborhood near dismissal time. They report strange activities taking place at or near bus stops. In some ways, they are much like a Mobile Neighborhood Watch.
Bus safety does not end with what the student should do on the bus. It continues with what students should do as they are leaving the bus. This list will provide the essentials of ending a bus ride safely. A nice touch would be to have your children thank their driver each time they get off the bus for getting them to school (or back home) safely. It would mean more to them than you or your child would ever imagine.
