Astrology's twelve signs

From our earthly perspective the Sun appears in a circle around the Earth, against the back drop of the stars. This circle is known as the ecliptic.

The axis of our earth's rotation is inclined at an angle to the plane of the ecliptic, and the earth's equator is imagined to be extended into space. This imagined line cuts through the ecliptic at two points, these points are known as the equinoxes.

Astrologers further divide the ecliptic in to twelve sections of 30 degrees, generating the 12 signs and the circle of the zodiac.

The vernal or spring equinox, is taken as the beginning of the zodiac, and this point is called the Aries point in both astronomy and astrology.

Each sign is classified in several different ways ~ element, modality, polarity, orientation, phase and archetype.

Understanding each sign depends upon synthesizing all of these things.

What you find here is about the 12 astrological signs in general, not just your "Sun sign". There are 8 planets, the Sun and the Moon, plus many other heavenly bodies and points and all pass through thr zodiac and are colored by the sign they are traveling through.

Note: In Western astrology the signs of the zodiac have nothing to do with the star constellations, but are based on the relationship between the Sun and the earth. Read more here
