In a city where multi-page applications for three year olds ask parents to list "your child's greatest achievements - so far" (uhm... potty training?), families who want to stand out and land a spot in a school with an admissions ratio worse than Harvard's better have something pretty great to tell them.
Or how about... something pretty great to show them?
On Wednesday, September 4, 2013, The Children's Museum of the Arts hosted a launch party for Keepy, an app dedicated to helping you organize, enhance, share, admire and preserve the awesome stuff your kids make forever in an interactive keepsake box, or, as Keepy's CEO, Offir Gutelzon, put it, "It's a playlist of your memories."
He also demonstrated for the NY Gifted Education Examiner how parents can take a photo of their budding genius' latest masterpiece, scan it (the Keepy recognizes paper borders and crops accordingly), upload it to each child's individual profile, have the artists themselves record a message about the project, then invite others to take a look and comment, either in writing or via video (Keepy is synched to your Dropbox, insuring there's a hard drive back up, as well).
Gutelzon had in mind families inviting such online visitors as grandparents living far away or close friends. But, the NY Gifted Education Examiner wanted to know, could Keepy be used to create the ultimate school application portfolio?
According to Gutelzon, it absolutely can be. Click View the List (either at the top of the page or the bottom) to find out how you can use Keepy for applying to pre-schools schools, some Gifted & Talented programs, merit-based scholarships or, for home-schoolers, as evidence of work your child has completed to meet state standards.
Keepy is FREE at the iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPhone Touch. It comes with 50 free Keepys to start with, and the option to increase storage with an in-app purchase. According to Gutelzon, the ability to search and email is on its way.
