We live in dark and dangerous times. The box office this past weekend revealed that families want, seek, and need uplifting, inspirational, redemptive family entertainment. This past weekend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 was the top movie at the box office. This animated Sony sequel earned $35 million in its debut weekend. The original Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs brought in $30.3 million, during its opening weekend in 2009. Again, a good family movie is a winner at the box office. Not only in the U.S. have we seen top earning family movies. In the UK box office, Wreck-It Ralph and The Croods, both computer-animated family films, were top earning films 2013’s first quarter.
Other top earning, redemptive, family movies in the U.S. have included the following in 2013: Oz: The Great and Powerful, Despicable Me 2, Monsters University, and Iron Man Three. See the List below.
