An oath by God to encourage us

  Hope keeps our soul from drifting and being lost. Hope gives a soul stability and strength. And God swore so that we could have hope and be unshakeable. The promise even goes inside the veil into the Temple's heart, its Holy of holies ... where we can go to bow before Jesus and find mercy.God swore. He promised and made an oath and because there was no one bigger than Himself He swore on Him.. He did this not for Himself but so that we would be encouraged. The oath was that many children and The Child would come through Abraham and he would be greatly blessed. It was also an anchor for us. People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, (Hebrews 6:16-19 NIV)
