The season has been so jam packed with events that one would think there could be nothing left to do on the last weekend of the summer. Au contraire mon frère!
Below is a partial list of some of the amazing events planned for Labor Day Weekend. From real county fairs to faux county fairs, from jazz to celtic to classical music, from arts & crafts to farmers markets, and everything in between, this weekend is loaded with good family-fun events. There's so many it has to be difficult to choose!
Two that don't appear in the list below are:
- New Kingston Whoop-De-Doo Festival Sunday September 1 - A festival to showcase traditional folkways and crafts of the Catskills, the Blue Deer Center, a retreat center in New Kingston, will resurrect the long-dead Whoop-De-Doo on its campus on Rte. 6, just a few miles from the town center that was the site of the original festival. The Blue Deer's version of the Whoop-De-Do is going to be a single day crammed with traditional crafts and activities. Just like the old Whoop-De-Doo, there will be a chicken barbecue, square dancing, and demonstrations of traditional crafts.
- Annual Flea Market at the Overlook Methodist Church in Woodstock, Saturday August 31 - the field next to the church (on the Rt 212 Bearsville flats) will be filled with vendors selling all kinds of treasures. In addition, church members will be selling refreshments, with a full bake sale and an awesome plant table. It seems most of the church folks are great bakers and gardeners. 9 a.m. is when the best buys are available, but it lasts until mid-afternoon.
Have a safe and happy Holiday!
