Amy Bruni posted a joke on her Facebook page on Tuesday about a major fast-food chain having Ouija board-themed kid's meal for Halloween. The former "Ghost Hunters" cast member said today on Twitter that she is now receiving death threats from fans and followers due to the joke.
Former "Ghost Hunters" star Amy Bruni posted a photo of an altered kid's meal box and joked that McDonald's was going to have Ouija Board Happy Meals instead of the standard trick-or-treat bucket. A lot of fans didn't realize that Bruni was joking and they let her and the restaurant know that they weren't pleased about the idea. Although Ouija boards can be purchased at most toy stores, many parents believe that the game is inappropriate for young children.
"SO excited for McDonald's Halloween Happy Meal this year!!!" Bruni said in a post on her Facebook page on August 26.
Angry fans even went as far as sending Bruni death threats on her social media pages. Shortly after posting the photo, she explained that she was just joking about Ouija Board McDonald's Happy Meals.
"Hey all! The artist who creatively came up with that McDonald's Ouija Happy Meal has a whole line of horror themed Happy Meals. They're just photo shopped, not real, so you can stop messaging me and wishing death upon my family and me - true story," Bruni wrote in a post on her Facebook page today. "Enjoy! And to those of you who have said terrible things about me because this joke went right over your head, I'd rather sleep on a bed of Ouija boards then associate with you anyway," Bruni said.
"Lesson learned. Do not joke on Facebook that McDonald's is releasing a Ouija Board Happy Meal," Bruni said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.
Bruni announced to her fans earlier this year that she won't be returning to "Ghost Hunters" for the show's tenth season. She will be on the remaining episodes of season nine which air in October, including the 200th episode of the series. Former cast member Grant Wilson also returns for the anniversary episode.
"Ghost Hunters" is the longest running series on the Syfy Channel. The Syfy Channel's "Ghost Hunters" mid-season premiere airs on Wednesday, October 8, at 9 pm.
