There are five major trophies in American sports and they are team trophies. The team trophies are generally more recognizable than are the trophies for individual achievements. Baseball, basketball, hockey and football are represented by the team trophies that many of us recognize by name.
The five major trophies
Professional baseball has the Commissioner's Trophy that goes to the winner of Major League Baseball's World Series.
Professional basketball has the Larry O'Brien trophy that goes to the National Basketball Association champ.
The Stanley Cup goes to the National Hockey League's champion: they, of course, are professional hockey players.
The professional football trophy that goes to the winner of the Super Bowl is the Lombardi Trophy. The BCS Championship Trophy goes to the college football team that wins the national championship.
These trophies can be seen throughout the year long reign of the team that won them at league events and at events run by advertisers who run ads at the team's venue. Many of us often miss these events that show off the trophies.
