Murder-suicide in the family: A growing trend

The Salt Lake City Tribune is reporting today that another family is dead by murder-suicide. This time involving a police officer who killed his entire family in Spanish Fork.

January 2014: Here is a list of American families who have died by murder-suicide just this week, bringing the total of victims to 15.

Spanish Fork

A police officer gunned down his whole family in their Spanish Fork home. Police say, Joshua Boren shot and killed his wife Kelly King Boren, 32, his son Jaden Boren, 7, his daughter Haley Boren, 5, and his 55 year-old mother-in-law Marie King before turning the gun on himself. Sources say, the couple was having marital problems.

Utah

A Utah mother shot and killed her two children on January 14 because she was having problems with her fiancé. According to the New York Daily News, Kyler Ann Ramsdell-Oliva, 32, gunned down her daughters Kenadee, 13, and Isabella, 7, before turning the gun on herself. The police were at the scene supervising the woman's fiancé as he placed his personal items in a U-haul.

Florida

A Florida mother shot and killed her two children because she was distraught over her recent divorce and financial problems. Police records show that Jennifer Berman shot her son Alex, 16, and her daughter Jacqueline, 15, in her West Palm Beach home before shooting herself. Ex-husband, Richard Berman, found the bodies at the home after receiving a text message from his ex-wife. Neighbors stated that Jennifer Berman looked dazed, sad and confused several weeks before their deaths, according to the New York Daily News.

South Carolina

A family of Jehovah's Witnesses were found dead in their Columbia home. Barbershop owner Sheddrick Miller shot his wife Kia Miller and their children, Kyler Devane Miller, 3, and Syrai Raquel Miller, 1, then turned the gun on himself.

Family and friends say, the family seemed like they were a happy family but financial problems could have possibly been a motive in the murder-suicide case.
