Activities are abundant for Memorial Day Weekend

Fireworks, jazz, patriotism, picnicking, and the Kansas City Symphony take to Union Station on Sunday for the Celebration at the Station. Spectators celebrate the contributions of military veterans as they are entertained on the grassy confluence between Union Station and the Liberty Memorial. General Richard B. Myers and the Texas Tenors will be on hand for the event.

The Westport Roots Festival will be held on Saturday between Pennsylvania Avenue and Mill Street on Westport Rd. The festival features 26 performers including singer songwriter Billy Joe Shaver, Loaded Goat, Calamity Cubes, and County Graves among others.

Sporting events are abundant this weekend as the Kansas City Royals take on Houston at Kauffman Stadium. The Kansas City T-Bones take on Fargo-Moorhead the 23rd through the 25th at Community America Ballpark. Sporting Kansas City plays Toronto on the 23rd at Sporting Park and the Bad Prom Run is held at Arrowhead Stadium on the 23rd.

Aftershock Bar located at 5244 Merriam Dr. in Merriam, Kan.  Friday night the club presents on stage Adrenaline Mob at 7 p.m. Saturday night the club features on stage Rymelo, Perfect Persuit, Consider the Lemming, Those Gypsies, Freedomclutch, Eastwood Riot, Gecko Named Terrance, Civil Symphony, and Masquerade beginning at 4 p.m.

Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club is located just south of downtown at 3402 Main in Kansas City.  Friday night the club presents In Rooms, Knife Crime, and Red Kate at 9 p.m. with a $6 cover charge.  Saturday night the club features Baseline Burns at 9 p.m. with a $6 cover charge.

Kelly’s Westport Inn located at 500 Westport Road, in the Westport Entertainment District.  Friday the club will feature on stage Wonderfuzz at 10 p.m.  At 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Government Cheese takes the main stage.  Kelly’s Westport Inn has an outdoor dining and drinking area located on the rooftop of the business.

The RecordBar is located at 1020 Westport Road in the Westport Entertainment District.   On Friday night at 7 p.m., the club presents Man in the Ring and at 10 p.m. Sextonic Plates, Lucky, and NowHere take the stage.  Saturday at 7 p.m., the club features Phil Neal and the Wornalls and at 10 p.m. Cowboy Indian Bear, Max Justus, and Nite take the stage.

The Riot Room is located just north of Westport Road at 4048 Broadway in the Westport Entertainment District. Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Geographer, Pioneer, and Orthon Anderthon take the stage.  Saturday night at 8 p.m. Now Now Sleepyhead, Rose and Louise, and Famous Mammoth take the stage with an $8 cover charge.
