High pressure will dominate the weather across the Capital Region today. Temperatures should top out right around normal for this time of year with a northwest breeze during the afternoon. Some mid and high level clouds, associated with a cold front, will mix with the sunshine late in the day.
As the cold front passes through the region during the overnight hours tonight, a continued increase in the cloud cover is expected, along with the chance for a scattered shower or sprinkle. Widespread rainfall is not anticipated due to lack of moisture for this system to work with.
Canadian high pressure builds into the region on Thursday, and it will feel like early autumn across the area. High temperatures will be running a good 5, to as much as 10, degrees below normal through the first half of the weekend. In addition, Thursday night looks quite chilly as the heart of the Canadian high pressure nestles over the region. Clear skies, calm winds, and ideal cooling conditions may see portions of the north-country and outlying areas waking up to some frost.
Temperatures slowly moderate over the weekend as the high pressure area shifts to our east, and winds shift to the south and southwest. Generally dry weather is expected into early next week, before a warm front approaches on Tuesday, bringing the threat for some showers and subsequent warmer temperatures.
