In the Neverwinter MMO during character creation a player will make a selection as to the deity they will hail as their primary. While the impacts of this choice are minimal (if any currently) to the MMO players, this selection in the tabletop RPG actually has a very direct impact on the play-style of the character to which they are being attributed.
The list of this article aims to not only give some insight into each of these deities and their place within the world of Faerun, but also to give some insight into each deity's alignment as well. Alignment may have very little to do with the current Neverwinter MMO, but any tabletop D&D player will agree that is not the case when it comes to the tabletop version of the game.
Currently the selection of deity in the Neverwinter MMO signifies the deity a player worships when invoking their power from a campfire on the hourly rotation by which they can. Invoking the gods will provide one or more of several items; invoking will always apply a random fifteen minute buff expressing the deity's favor, the first couple of invocations within a twenty four hour cycle give experience along with unrefined astral diamonds, and randomly a deity will also gift a player with a potion for health restoration or a buff. As a character will level up the rewards will increase as well, and upon maximum level the experience will land on active companions to assist with leveling them up as well.
Many of the events that take place in Neverwinter are tied to specific deities and seasons attributed to each; while the choice of a deity may have little to no impact today on the actual game-play, it definitely seems possible that this will not always be the case. Taking the time to actually research each before making this selection, may seem a fruitless journey for all but the role-players as things stand currently, but if the release of an expansion within a year of the game's release, a steady stream of events & rotating content, and the momentum this indicates of the developers; can serve as any indicator for the future of this game that may not always be the case.
